Celebrating and making a difference in the lives of those families that are making a difference for ours..
With this summer's pilot launch of the hero's program we have received generous sponsorship funding to send 40 kids ages 11-15 to a camp designed specifically for them.
As well as traditional camp activities such as canoeing and kayaking, swimming, sports and archery, campers also get to check out the high and low ropes courses at Wesley Acres and test their mettle on the rock climbing wall. The camp is a quick pontoon ride from Sandbanks provincial park where the children can spend a day swimming and exploring their creative sides in a sandcastle-building contest.

This aim of this course is to encourage the campers to seek a closer relationship with God and to study His Word.
In addition we will teach the campers a pattern of survival involving 1st aid, fire lighting, shelter building, signals, food and water. Canoe skills, orienteering, high ropes and other challenge events involving teamwork will be covered during the week. As mentioned above the groups will prepare their own food. Some fishing may be done but we will not be harvesting any other wildlife. The staff have a great deal of experience. Bob Sharpe, a retired military pilot, has spent most of his life canoeing, hunting, rock climbing and fishing in 6 of our provinces and 1 territory. He was the chief instructor at the Canadian Forces Survival Training School where he taught bush, sea, arctic, and desert survival in Canada and Norway. Les Young is an ex school teacher with a great deal of experience in the outdoors as well as leading camping trips. Brian Appel an Ottawa school teacher grew up in the North country and has many skills to pass on dealing with camping and canoeing. We will also have a female councillor in order to provide some guidance to the girls.
& Lunch & Friday Supper
It is our hope that this week will enable the campers to better approach a survival situation or even life in general better prepared physically, emotionally and spiritually.
